Tohatoha Aotearoa Commons is a non-profit organisation that helps people share their copyright works for reuse by others. Sometimes creators and other copyright holders want the public to be able to reuse their works but are unable to allow reuse easily and legally given the works’ “All Rights Reserved” copyright status. Creative Commons licences enable copyright holders to allow reuse of their works by giving everyone a range of permissions in advance.
The focus of this partnership is on supporting the use of the Internet in education and research, specifically with activities and resources that support open access models via the Internet in the education and research sectors. Tohatoha received $50k in funding for the 2016/17 financial year, $35k in the 2017/18 financial year and $40k in the 2018/19 financial year.
