Data breach notification

Data breach notification

Data breach what now?

It is possible for ISPs to be attacked by hackers, and for your information to be accessed via your ISP without your permission. If your ISP has a mandatory breach disclosure policy, then they effectively promise to tell you if this happens. If they don’t have one, then your information could be accessed and you may never know.

Why we care

Human rights should apply online. We view privacy as one of those rights. It’s essential that individuals know when their online and personal information may have been compromised, so that they can take steps to protect themselves. Every time there is a data breach that exposes personally identifiable information, the owner of that information should be promptly notified.

Why should you care?

Because you have the right to control and protect your information. Sometimes you may wish to just reset your password, and other times you may need to do more to protect your identity. We believe that these decisions are best left to you, but you can only make them if you’re told about the problem.
