The value of Defenz DNS Firewall
In the four months we’ve offered the Defenz free trial, we’ve seen a great uptake of businesses signing up - resulting in 80 networks being protected! With the events of 2020, many organisations who are interested in this extra layer of protection haven’t been able to register and see the results for themselves.
As a result, we have extended the free trial until the end of the year to give more businesses the chance to see how the Defenz DNS Firewall works and what protection it offers.
For a better idea of just how this piece of cybersecurity works, we’ve compiled some interesting data for you to look at. This is just a snapshot of the dashboards registered users can see.
How effective is Defenz at blocking harmful sites?
A DNS Firewall, like Defenz, is one part of a good security system needed to keep your organisation and people safe. There are many different threats to be found online and once you can identify areas of risk, it becomes easier to find ways to protect yourself - and others on your network.
Operating at the DNS level (Domain Name System), Defenz helps users on a network by blocking access to domain names and URLS that could be harmful to your device. We do this by utilising threat feeds from overseas and here in New Zealand. You can see an example of this below, and how these threats are logged on the dashboard.
This extra level of protection can be useful in stopping users from accessing harmful files and content that could infect their device. Consider it a behind-the-scenes defense layer, complementing other layers such as network firewalls and antivirus software. Each serves their purpose, but having a layered approach to security means you have more chances to stop and prevent damage being done.
When is Defenz most effective?
We can see from our data that when Defenz is implemented on a network, that’s when a lot of the hard work occurs. Threats come and go and when they do, it can be to a lot of staff at once. It takes just one person to inadvertently click that link that is too good to be true.
Here we see the detail of the blocks from the network above. Two spikes of activity trying to access phishing and infected web pages. Defenz DNS Firewall provides consistent network protection from these kinds of threats. This service provides data that allows you to take action as appropriate to better secure your organisation from harm.
