Routine DNSSEC operation resumed

A year after an outage that occurred during a routine Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) key rollover, InternetNZ has returned to DNSSEC operations.
On Monday, 29 May 2023, InternetNZ triggered a series of events that led to a subset of end users being unable to access a large number of .nz domains. Since the incident, the organisation has taken action to ensure efficiency in the way we work with DNSSEC. This includes implementing recommendations from the Independent report into the DNSSEC incident, as well as our own internal report.
On 7 August 2024, routine DNSSEC operation resumed. The timeline below shows the key stages of progress toward the resumption.
The InternetNZ Operations team will continue to implement the recommendations of internal and external reports as they progress with work using DNSSEC.
