Submission on
Netsafe's draft Aotearoa New Zealand Code of Practice for Online Safety and Harms
Consultation date
2 December 2021 – 2 February 2022
What we said...
We said the proposed Code started in the wrong place and should have been developed starting with local communities rather than online services. Because of that starting point, and the potential for perceived conflicts of interest with services funding NetSafe to operate the Code, we think work on the Code needs to pause now. Instead, we think those who contributed to the Code should work through government-led processes that better reflect community needs and concerns, such as the current review of media regulation being run by the Department of Internal Affairs.
