Panel phishes out issues and opportunities for .nz

The .nz panel has spent the last couple of months researching and listening to New Zealanders’ views essentially on how open, accessible and secure they want the Internet to be. 

Layered on to those considerations has been collecting opinions on where Te Tiriti (the Treaty of Waitangi), human rights, privacy, and e-commerce fit into Kiwi views on the .nz domain names space. It’s fair to say there are lots of different views!

Our engagement is feeding into our thinking and analysis on the issues. Our .nz survey was open online for four weeks and has offered interesting insights into what New Zealanders think about the .nz domain name space. Our session at NetHui also provided interesting feedback –from audiences who well understood how domain names worked to those who raised issues of accessibility for more vulnerable or less able sectors.

At our last meeting, we broke into groups to bring that research and our different perspectives to all of the issues raised.

We’re now at the meaty end of drafting an issues report, which will be provided to InternetNZ in the New Year.
