If you are an InternetNZ member passionate about an open and secure Internet, care about digital equity, and want to use your skills and experience to help guide InternetNZ’s future, this is your moment.
As a member-driven organisation, we rely on strong governance to deliver on our vision — and that starts with you.
What you need to know
- If you have been an InternetNZ member for three months (signed up on or before 16 April 2026) or more, you are eligible for nomination.
- Eligible members can nominate themselves or be nominated by another member.
- Nominations are open from June 11 to July 16, 2026.
- InternetNZ members will be asked to participate in online voting from July 24 to August 10, 2026.
- The two successful candidates will be announced at the Annual General Meeting on August 13, 2026.
Who should stand for the Board?
InternetNZ Board members play a meaningful role in shaping the Internet in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our organisation stewards the .nz domain name space and advocates for an open, secure Internet that benefits all New Zealanders. The Board sets InternetNZ’s strategic direction and provides oversight of its work.
If your skills, experience and knowledge complement that of existing Board members, and you’ve got a commitment to our kaupapa or purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
Some attributes that can be helpful in governance are strategic thinking, analytical capability, financial literacy, communication, stakeholder engagement and te ao Māori competencies.
There is more detailed information about the role, including time commitment, and the skillsets of the current Board members, in the 2026 Board Candidate Information Pack.
Appointed board members
Our Board is made up of seven elected members and two appointed members. This ensures that the organisation has the diverse skillsets required for good governance.
The terms of our two current appointed members, Whetū Fala and Anthony Bow, finish this year. We are currently in the process of confirming two new appointed Board members to replace them.
We are expecting to be able to announce the new appointed members by the end of June, before elected Board member nominations close.
We encourage those considering a run for the Board seats to check InternetNZ’s channels for this announcement — having a full picture of the existing Board members skillsets may influence your decision to stand.
I’d like to stand for one of the elected positions, what should I do?
- Double-check you’re eligible. If you joined InternetNZ before April 24, 2026 and meet the criteria outlined in section 3.5 of the Constitution you are eligible. If you’re not sure, feel free to contact us using the details at the bottom of the page.
- Read the 2026 Board Candidate Information Pack: Before you submit, make sure you have all the information you need. The candidate pack includes everything you need to know about Board responsibilities, campaign guidelines, time commitments, and what skills and experience our Board needs.
- Fill out the nomination form.
- Submit the form with the required materials: Nominees will be asked to provide a recent photo, short video (optional), and a written candidate profile. These will be shared on our website so members can get to know each candidate before voting.
Promoting yourself
Once the returning officer has confirmed your nomination, you can start sharing with other InternetNZ members why they should elect you to the board.
- Make a short video: We will be publishing short video introductions of the candidates on our website during the campaign period. It’s optional, but it’s an opportunity to share your background, why you are standing for the Board and why you’re a good pick.
- Introduce yourself on NetHub: InternetNZ’s Slack channel for members, NetHub, is a good place to introduce yourself to other members and let them know why you’re standing. If you’re not already on NetHub, email membership@internetnz.net.nz.
- Keep an eye out for Meet the Candidates sessions: We may host online webinars for candidates depending on candidate numbers and member interest. These sessions will provide members with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates and ask questions before voting closes.
- Use your own channels: Candidates are free to use their own in-person or online channels and networks to campaign.
