WITcon20 — bigger and better

2020 has been a challenging year for anyone running events. For the team at Victoria University of Wellington Women in Technology, WITcon20 has been a much-anticipated affair. The event was postponed in August, but the show must go on.
WITcon is a one-day student-led tech conference that brings students and industry together to discuss social and technical topics relating to STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Maths).
InternetNZ was delighted to support the event and host a pre-event hui for speakers and sponsors the night before. A handful of members, staff, and even some new friends from a local college joined us on the day. I caught up with Aleisha Amohia, Catalyst IT Koha Developer, about the day.
"WITcon 2020 was the perfect combination of STEAM-related technical and social talks. I love that WITcon fosters the kind of environment where we can have presentations from both students and professionals and that there is something to learn for everyone. The speakers and panellists were wonderful, the talk lengths were comfortable, and the catering was delicious!
"There's something so special about returning to the seed you planted and seeing the massive growth it has experienced. As the Immediate Past President of Victoria University of Wellington Women in Tech, I am immensely proud of the team for everything they've achieved as a club executive in such an unpredictable year. I was overjoyed watching the team do their thing during WITcon and seeing how they've made it bigger and better than it was before. Ka rawe!" Aleisha Amohia.
We’re so happy we could help by sponsoring such a successful event. If it sounds like value to you — keep an eye out for the next VUWWIT opportunity and check it out.
