.nz registry replacement implementation
On 20 April 2021, InternetNZ has announced a significant investment in its Internet infrastructure to renew the .nz registry platform.
After evaluating a number of different registry platform solutions, InternetNZ partnered with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) to customise and deploy its CIRA Registry Platform. The new .nz registry went live on 1 November 2022.
In adopting this new platform, InternetNZ deprecated its proprietary Shared Registry System protocol (SRS) and standardised on the globally adopted Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP).

Tender outcome (announced)
The .nz registry replacement tender process concluded in November 2020. Negotiations resulted in a contract signed with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) in April 2021.
REOI outcome
InternetNZ received a large number of EOI responses of very high quality and calibre.
After a thorough evaluation of all responses, InternetNZ decided to invite three organisations to progress to closed tender for the new .nz registry system.
Request for tender (issued)
A request for tender (RFT) was issued in July 2020, along with associated technical documents. The documentation is consistent with the EOI but provided a clearer and more detailed specification of the services we wish to procure.
