Tihei mauriora!
At our 2024 AGM, held on Thursday, 25 July, we were pleased to announce our newly elected President and Vice President and re-elected Council member.
The votes were scrutinised, and the successful candidates are:
- President (three-year term): Stephen Judd
- Vice President (three-year term): Anjum Rahman MNZM, FCA
- Council member (three-year term): Richard Hulse
Our newly elected President is Stephen Judd. Stephen is a current Councillor, nau piki mai ki tō turanga hōu, Stephen.
We welcome another current Councillor, Anjum Rahman (MNZM, FCA) into the position of Vice President and Richard Hulse returns as a Councillor. Congratulations all, kei runga noa atu!
Me mihi ka tika, we’d like to acknowledge everyone who stood in this election, the numbers were close. We are lucky to have so many incredible people putting their names forward to become part of InternetNZ Council. It demonstrates just how important member participation in the voting process is, every vote really does count.
Outgoing Council members
As we welcome new Council members, we would also like to acknowledge our outgoing Councillors.
Joy Liddicoat, outgoing President
Joy has been a long-serving member of the InternetNZ Council. Joy joined InternetNZ in October 2007 when she was appointed to the .nz Oversight Committee supporting the committee’s transition to the Domain Name Commission Limited, serving as chair from 2012-2013. Joy was elected as InternetNZ Vice President in 2013 and as President in 2021.
“We’re sad to farewell Joy. Joy’s support for me as the new CEO of Ipurangi Aotearoa has been amazing, as well as being deeply informed on all things Internet, InternetNZ, and Governance. We wish her all the best for a life beyond the InternetNZ Council and hopefully a lot more outdoor adventures.” — Vivien Maidaborn, InternetNZ CE
Brenda Wallace, outgoing Vice President
We would also like to acknowledge Brenda, our outgoing Vice President. Brenda has also been a long-serving member of the InternetNZ Council and was elected as Vice President in 2022. Thank you for your contribution. InternetNZ is better for your work.
By-election
Due to both the new President and Vice President positions being filled by current Council members, we will need to hold a by-election to fill the two vacant Council member positions. We anticipate this process happening within the next 6-8 weeks. We will keep you updated as planning for the by-election gets underway.
The election process
Only InternetNZ members are eligible to vote in the election of our Council members, including President and Vice President positions. You must have an active InternetNZ membership (for at least 3 months) to vote in the election.
The election process followed by InternetNZ is both robust and transparent. Not unlike any other election process seen in Aotearoa and throughout the world, every member has the opportunity to cast their vote, and this is how our Council representatives are decided.
