Mahi Aroha Awards
Ciara Arnot Community Advisor •
Volunteer Wellington held their awards night on Wednesday 21 July to recognise outstanding volunteers making a positive impact in the community.
Together with the Domain Name Commission, we were proud to sponsor the Mahi Aroha awards and attend the evening along with over 100 other guests representing the community, public and business sectors in the Wellington region.
As part of this sponsorship, InternetNZ and the Domain Name Commission have joined Volunteer Wellington’s Employee Volunteering programme to enable staff to give their time to causes that mean alot to them.
We look forward to joining the ranks of these rockstar volunteers!
This year, there were three categories that Volunteer Wellington community members could nominate for:
- Volunteer of the Year – an outstanding volunteer active in their community
- Team Governance – recognising great Boards of community organisations
- Employee Volunteering Community Partnership – awarding businesses that are volunteering with community members.
The quality of the nominations was superb and the judges had a tough job shortlisting, but after hours of deliberation, they drew up a list of winners, runner ups and highly commended volunteers.
We are proud give a shout out to the awards recipients:
- Volunteer of the Year winner – Nicole Barlow of Bellyful
- Volunteer of the Year runner up – Gary Mitchell for multiple organisations
- Volunteer of the Year highly commended – Jean Henry of Cancer Society Wellington Division
- Volunteer of the Year highly commended – Marea Nicolle of YouthLine
